Hurricane Helene - Impact and Recovery Efforts at the Asheville Field Office
Tuesday July 21, 2026 1:00pm - 2:20pm CDT
Hurricane Helene severely impacted the Asheville Field Area. This presentation looks at impacts from the storm as well as recovery efforts that were undertaken by Asheville Field Office staff as well as assistance from many outside sources. This (hopefully) once in a lifetime storm event led to significant damage and loss of data. Significant effort was put into restoring the network, assigning peak gage heights, and conducting indirect measurements to compute discharge data through the event.

Tuesday July 21, 2026 3:00pm - 3:50pm CDT
The USGS Continuous Water-Quality community maintains a large network of real-time instruments. Throughout the country, the USGS is collecting over 6,000 continuous water-quality datasets at over 2,500 sites and measuring more than 8 water-quality parameters (temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nitrate, chlorophyll, and Fluorescent Dissolved Organic Matter (fDOM)). Discover what CWQ resources are available for staff, who to contact with questions or suggestions, and what efforts are in progress.

New Limited-Use Method for the Collection of Low Precision (0.1 ft) Stage Data
Thursday July 23, 2026 8:00am - 8:50am CDT
Limited-Use methods are collected and/or reviewed using non-standard methods, which may include modifications to a standard method, differences in quality assurance procedures, and(or) following external methods with limited validation information pertaining to a particular use or context. The low precision, or 0.1ft, stage data method establishes the procedural framework for these modification. The method provides a complete description of the requirements for site establishment, as well as the data collection and data processing quality assurance/quality control procedures.
This session will discuss these requirements and examine how the new method's modifications impact data quality compared to the standard methods currently collected under the parameter Gage height.

How do you do? - Hydrotechs in the office
Thursday July 23, 2026 9:00am - 9:20am CDT
This session is an open‑format discussion focused on the day‑to‑day office work of hydrologic technicians. Attendees are encouraged to share the strategies, tools, workflows, and habits that help them stay productive when they’re not in the field. The goal is to create a collaborative “hive‑mind” environment where participants can exchange ideas, ask questions, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another’s experiences.
Whether it’s data management techniques, tips for organizing field schedules, or tricks for navigating internal systems, all ideas are welcome. Come ready to contribute, listen, and walk away with practical takeaways from your fellow hydrotechs.

Use this link to access teams to share content. Hydrotechs in the office.

Unified Field Data Collection Application- Status Update
Thursday July 23, 2026 10:00am - 10:20am CDT
Like a lot of things, the Unified Field App (UFA) project has navigated several challenges in the last year. This means we've had to push the groundwater module release date until sometime well into 2027.

Despite these setbacks, the team has kept momentum moving forward. We're using 2026 to re-group, refine our strategy, and set the project up for success in 2027 and beyond.

Most importantly, the project is still moving forward (though slower than planned) and is recognized as a high priority. We appreciate your patience and continued enthusiasm.
